Golf Swing Basics. Learn The Secrets For Instant Golfing Improvement
Golf Swing Tips
The principles of the Golf Swing have not changed much since the shepherd hit the first stone with his crook when he was bored with just tending to his sheep. These principles have been followed for centuries and are still good advice even today. Even then if the shepherd had wanted the stone to fly straight certain conditions would have had to be met.
Golf Swing Basics
To ensure that you have the basis for good golf swings it should be noted that the club should be moved, on the back swing, at a speed more slowly than you intend to bring it back down again. "Slow back" is the first golfing adage which every golfer should remember. A good golf swing speed should never be so fast that control of the club is lost at the transition to the down swing, in other words at the top of the back swing.
The term "Quitting on the stroke" explains the outcome when exactly the opposite has happened to "Slow Back". The club head has been taken back quickly and the down swing has decelerated through the golf ball impact area. This is usually observed in a bunker shot or a chip shot rather than on a tee shot. The golfer, with a sand wedge in hand, tries to control the distance the ball will travel with the power of the swing. If the pin is not far from the bunker it is tempting to slow down on the down swing with disappointing results. This situation will also destroy a drive from the tee.
Golf Swing Plane.
The head of the club should be taken back in a straight line from the ball for the first eighteen inches at the same time keeping the club head close to the ground. Any tendency to sweep the club head round sharply in an arc should be avoided at all cost. Try to aim to keep the club very close to the straight line until it is half-way up.
Carrying of the club head backwards and upwards would appear to be a very simple matter, but there are several other deciding features in the back swing to be aware of if you want to make a consistent contact with the ball.
More points for consideration. There are many facets to the golf swing so let us consider here all the most important points.
Golf Swing Mechanics.
A vital point to master before anyone can expect consistent success is to achieve impeccable control of your head. Every attempt should be made to keep the head motionless from the time the ball is addressed until the ball is airborne. I appreciate that it is almost a physical impossibility but the smallest deviation of the head, from the stance position, is a recipe for disaster.
The golf swing happens so quickly that the untrained observer is usually
convinced that the golfer is moving his head. It is often difficult to decide between moving the head upwards, away from the ball, and taking your eye off the ball. It is not uncommon for golfers to move their head up by a distance of 4 to 5 inches. This tendency must be overcome at all costs. It will only result in either - topping the ball, hitting the ground before the ball or missing the ball altogether.
When the head position has been maintained correctly and the club has reached the top of the back swing, the left eye should be looking directly over the centre of the left shoulder. The lack of flexibility of the player may restrict being able to attain this position but every effort should be made to come somewhere close. Actually there is very little room for error if the ball is to be kept in full view for the whole of the swing time.
Most of the movements which combine to make a good swing occur naturally and without much thought but other aspects must be noted and practised if you are to execute a powerful strike of the ball.
The Sway
In the takeaway and during the upward movement of the club the body must remain perfectly still. It is vital that there must not be the merest fraction of movement. When the golfer makes any movement at all, and sways, the result is simply a body stroke. The body is then trying to do what the arms should do. It is impossible to get the power into the strike and will always encourage either a slice or a pull. To have a good idea of what the body movement should look like under control it might be advisable to watch a golf swing video. These are perfect for watching how other golfers do it, at the same time receiving golf swing instructions which will only benefit your game.
Feet And Legs
The movements of the feet and legs are important. In addressing the ball you stand with both feet flat and securely placed on the ground, the weight equally divided between them, and the legs slightly bent at the knee joints. This position must be maintained during the upward movement of the club until the arms begin to pull at the body.
The easiest and most natural thing to do now is to raise the heel of the left foot and begin to pivot on the left toe. This then allows the arms to proceed with their upwards movement. Pivot on this foot only when you feel you need to, and do it only so that the club can reach the full extent of the swing without any difficulty. While this is happening it follows that the weight of the body is being gradually thrown on to the right leg, which accordingly stiffens until, at the top of the swing, it is quite rigid. The left leg should now be in a state of comparative freedom, with only just enough pressure on the toe to keep it in position.
There Is No Time To Think.
We have all these things to attend to and something less than a second in which to do to them. But when the back stroke begins everything must be accomplished without any effort and, to a great extent, unconsciously. The upward swing is everything. If it is not executed correctly, the downward swing will be wrong and the ball will not be properly driven. If it is perfect, there is the best chance of a long and straight drive.
Be careful not to dwell at the top of the swing. The club has been gaining in speed right up to this point. Obviously due to the change of direction there is a pause at the transition point lasting for a fraction of a second but the golfer should not be aware of it. He must be careful to make the transition smooth.
The club should gradually gain in speed from the moment of the turn until it is in contact with the ball. At the moment of impact the club head should be travelling at its fastest pace. After the impact, the club head should be allowed to follow the ball in a straight line to the flag as far as the arms will let it go. Now, having done everything that is possible, the golf swing sends the arms out to the other side of the shoulders. The entire movement must be perfectly smooth and rhythmical. In the down swing there must not be a hint of a jerk anywhere.
These tips will definitely but to help you further it might be suggested that you either attend golf swing lessons from your professional or the next best thing - purchase some golf swing analysis software. This is ideal for suggesting golf swing drills which will ensure you make progress with your golfing skills. If you budget will run to it you can always buy a golf swing training aid from any good golf outlet. These help to keep your grip and arms in the correct position. They help you to experience exactly what the golf swing should feel like when executed properly.

The Shape of Golf, Plane and Simple $22.48 The Shape of Golf, Plane and Simple reveals a blueprint for hitting the golf ball with the middle of the clubface. This book describes a technique that is very likely the best way to swing a golf club by showing how the dual arc angle sets into motion the multiple arcs in the golf swing. This book shows the angles and proper observation points and describes how the body, arms, and wrist work in the right sequence to create a perfect motion that achieves great success. The book describes the two points that define a perfect golf swing. Bob Haas wrote this book based on his 20+ years as a golf instructor, his experience, and his knowledge after teaching tens of thousands of different golfers. This book sets the standard in which the swing should be observed and measured for optimum ball flight and distance for all golfers. Although golfers have different builds and tempos, only one shape is known to reliably hit the ball with the middle of the clubface, which is the key for maintaining correct consistency and hitting the golf ball farther. Any golf swing can hit the perfectly good shots randomly, but golfers want to hit perfect shots consistently. Hitting perfect golf shots requires a specific technique that cannot be achieved consistently without this pattern. Based on fact and logic, the information in this book should de-mystify the right shape of the golf swing. If a golfer can practice and repeat this motion, they will truly find success in ball behavior. In fact, there's a direct correlation between this shape of golf and the shape used by the best golfers on the planet. There are more ways to swing a golf club incorrectly than there are to swing it correctly. Golf swings arechronic. Golfers have an inherent way of swinging the golf club, and they have a natural sequence of body, arms, and wrist. Identifying the natural sequence and how it influences the ball flight and changing to The Shape of Golf, Plane and Simple is the key to better ball behavior. Bob hopes you find this short book not only informative, but also helpful in your quest for perfection. Born in 1966 and raised in Boulder Colorado, Bob Haas has taught 20,000+ golfers at various facilities across the United States. He played his college golf at Southern Utah University, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration. He also played on the Dakotas Tour and Prairie Tour, but his main interest has been in golf instruction, teaching all aspects of the golf game. Bob has taught golf for over 20 years and gives daily presentations on the golf swing. He truly loves the game and has always had a strong enthusiasm for teaching. Although Bob has studied many of the great instructors, John Jacobs of England has influenced and affected his teachings more than any other instructor. After studying golf for over 30 years, Bob found a way to observe and explain a technique to make golfers more consistently correct and to hit the ball farther. Finding the right technique has made Bob's swin |

Golf Swing Solution $25.48 Golf Swing Solution takes a "new" angle on golf swing instruction by presenting the "foundation" for each golf swing that must be in place before all other forms of conventional instruction can succeed. Conventional Golf Instruction is Presented Backwards - After reading many books/articles on the golf swing, watching many golf instruction videos/DVDs, taking many private golf lessons, and attending the worlds' best golf schools- including, David Leadbetter and Hank Haney, the conclusion is most golf swing instruction is presented backwards- or from the bottom up, versus from the top down- focusing on many small pieces instead of presenting the entire big picture foundation of the golf swing first. Without a big picture foundation golf swing context, most golfers end up spinning their wheels and find it hard to improve their golf games, no matter how much they practice, or no matter how many lessons they take. In 4-sections, Golf Swing Solution provides the "Critical Bridge" for all other forms of conventional golf instruction to succeed. 1. TENSION-RELEASE GOLF SWING - What you need to feel at setup? What is the proper sequence of the arms and legs? What triggers takeaway? What turns in the golf swing? What causes swing plane? How do the wrists cock? What squares the golf club at impact? How the grip aligns with golf club construction? How to apply professional golf swing tempo and rhythm? 2. TENSION-RELEASE SAND SWING - Learn the key differences between the Sand Swing and the Full Swing. Learn the key set up and swing adjustments that make it "easy to get out of the sand" every time. 3. TENSION-RELEASE CHIP SHOT - Use Tension-Release swing principles to make proper arc + pendulum adjustments for chipping. 4. BALANCE PUTTING METHOD - New and original putting instruction that applies physics and science principles to the putting stroke- including (1) Single Pivot application (2) Arc + Pendulum sequence that utilizes natural centrifugal and centripetal force to roll the golf ball straight, with exceptional touch and feel. (3) Science of reading greens and break- uphill, downhill, left and right. " I have just finished the book. On the surface it seems absolutely brilliant. In simplest form, the golf swing is just a vertical to horizontal cycle and when you apply this cycle in correct sequence, all the other parts seem to fall together and you do not have to focus on particulars like weight shift, swing plane, wrist cock, release etc. Very interesting observations, and yet to my knowledge have never seen the golf swing presented like this before. Your presentations on chipping and sand swing are equally brilliant The putting material is more involved and will take a patient read. Now to take this to the course. Best regards, and kudos on a great job ..." (Unsolicited E-mail from Golf Swing Solution Reader). |

The Left Hand in the Golf Swing: A Discussion of Athleticism, Cross-Training and Golf $16.98 This is a "How To' book about improving one's athletic and golfing ability. It exposes the 'I'm too old," belief and the "I can't' charade. The better teaching in golf comes from those with an inveterate knowledge of the game, and the ability to convey it. As one who has lived the experience of improvement through strengthening the left hand, I'm able to sneak up beside the reader and say, "Oh yes you can. Yes, you CAN. SEE? You couldn't get there from HERE, but if you do THIS first, or accomplish THAT task, you'll improve enough to do THIS." And enjoy the doing of it. Sports like golf - with intricate physical mechanics - SEEM like mysteries to many because they've missed the good instruction, or listened through ears of disbelief because they weren't athletic superstars in their youth. Careful readers will understand they don't NEED to have learned golf as a child to become proficient and have fun with it as an adult. They just need to learn to transfer their personal physical talents and sports abilities into the mechanics of the golf swing. This is a process, and it's what the book is about. I've sought in the writing to simplify golf - a game in which intricacy and difficulty IS the draw, as well as the bane. The book never strays from the theme that golf is a physical game, but without spreading it thin, I maintain that athleticism is gained through diligent and guided practice, peppered with belief. The book focuses on elemental truths fundamental to successfully striking a golf ball. immutable nuggets I've come face-to-face with through experience, highlighted and punctuated by wisdom from, among others, Ted Williams, Jack Nicklaus and Muhammed Ali. Most golfers swing the clubwith a dominant right hand, because 90 percent of the population is right-handed. |

Momentus Swing Trainer Champions LH 32 oz Iron w/ Training Grip & DVD $59.95 The MOMENTUS is a revolutionary new swing trainer that incorporates a patented technology, whereby the clubshaft embodies most of the weight which is evenly distributed throughout the length of the shaft. The reason this is so beneficial in a practice club is because as a golfer swings the MOMENTUS, the evenly weighted shaft generates momentum. The momentum causes the club to swing along a balanced and proper swing plane. Through repetitions with the MOMENTUS, a golfer ingrains the feel for swinging the club on-plane. This leads to a drastic improvement in consistency and clubhead speed. The momentum of the shaft swings the club, so a golfer's muscles are stretched by swinging the trainer. Additional flexibility and strength are benefits also gained from swinging the MOMENTUS. It is an excellent club to use for warming up prior to playing a round of golf. The momentum of the evenly weighted shaft swings the 7-iron lofted club along the correct swing plane as the added weight ingrains the proper feel. The elusive feel for swinging the club "in the slot" is easily maintained with regular use. Improved consistency, flexibility and clubhead speed can be expected. These Revoluntionary Momentus Swing Trainers are used by more than 100 players on the PGA TOUR. |
